Super Team asked:

I was just wondering has everyone forgot the beating that opec put on the world by abandoning energy conservation. In january crude oil was at $35 per barrel and here we are over 5months later and oil is heading towards $70.OPEC says it is due to ”increasing demand”which is utterly ridiculous because we are in a global economic cash crisis and people are losing their jobs like crazy, vehicles getting repossessed,gm on the verge of bankruptcy, carpooling, etc. So that has to mean that the world has forgotten the $147.50 beating that opec put on everyone and abandon energy conservation because from $35 to nearly $70 in less than 6 months.I estimate at this rate crude will be back to $147.50 per barrel by or before sept 2010,unless the world gets serious about continually doing ”going green energy conservation methods. Also why has everyone abandon the energy saving light bulbs.I paid $4 a piece for my bulbs and they save me over $70 per month on my electricity compared to the soft white bulbs, plus they last for up to 2years(I already had mines for 9months now and they are still going strong). So why has every abandon these methods?,because it shows through the price of crude oil.

Controversial Obama Administration Official
Denies Being Part of 9/11 “Truther” Movement, Apologizes for Past Comments

September 03, 2009 9:19 PM

A top environmental official of the Obama administration issued a statement Thursday apologizing for past incendiary statement and denying that he ever agreed with a 2004 petition on which his name appears, a petition calling for congressional hearings and an investigation by the New York Attorney General into “evidence that suggests high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur.”

Van Jones, the Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, is Number 46 of the petitioners from the so-called “Truther” movement which suggests that people in the administration of President George W. Bush “may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.”

In a statement issued Thursday evening Jones said of “the petition that was circulated today, I do not agree with this statement and it certainly does not reflect my views now or ever.”

He did not explain how his name came to be on the petition. An administration source said Jones says he did not carefully review the language in the petition before agreeing to add his name.

“My work at the Council on Environmental Quality is entirely focused on one goal: building clean energy incentives which create 21st century jobs that improve energy efficiency and use renewable resources,” Jones said in his statement tonight.

Jones also said in his statement that “In recent days some in the news media have reported on past statements I made before I joined the administration – some of which were made years ago. If I have offended anyone with statements I made in the past, I apologize.”

With a history of incendiary and provocative remarks, many of them dealing with his view of how whites exploit minorities, Jones has emerged as the subject of much conservative scrutiny in recent days, particularly from Fox News’ Glenn Beck. (Jones defenders point out that most of Beck’s criticism came after a group Jones helped found, Color of Change, began pushing advertisers to boycott Beck after he accused President Obama of being a ******.)

Jones is the best-selling author of The Green Collar Economy and a leader in the “green jobs” movement — the idea that clean energy jobs can create jobs, especially in poor communities. He has been praised from leaders ranging from Al Gore to former eBay CEO (and Republican) Meg Whitman, who in May said that Jones is doing “a marvelous job… I’m a huge fan of his. He is very bright, very articulate, very passionate. I think he is exactly right.”

Earlier this year a profile of Jones in the New Yorker, author Elizabeth Kolbert wrote that “the basic premise of Jones’s appeal—that combating global warming is a good way to lift people out of poverty—is very much open to debate. … it’s not at all clear that the number of jobs created by, say, an expanding solar industry would be greater than the number lost through, say, a shrinking coal-mining industry. Nor is it clear that a green economy would be any better at providing work for the chronically unemployed than our present, ‘gray’ economy has been.”

But those theories aren’t the ones that have made Jones a lightning rod in the past few weeks.

In 2005 Jones told the East Bay Express that the acquittal of Rodney King’s assailants in 1992 in that infamous police brutality case changed him significantly. “I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th,” he said. “By August, I was a communist.”

Jones and other young activists in 1994 formed a group called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, rooted in Marxism and Leninsm. Two years later, Jones launched the Ella Baker Center, an Oakland, Calif., based “strategy and action center” which states that it tries to “promote positive alternatives to violence and incarceration.”

In February during a discussion on energy at Berkeley, Calif., (and prior to his joining the Obama administration) Jones referred to Republicans using an epithet for a proctological orifice, which he called “a technical, political science term.”

Asked why Republicans asserted more control of the Senate when they had a smaller majority before 2006, Jones said “the answer to that is, they’re a–holes.” He added that President Obama is not an a–hole, but, “I will say this. I can be an a–hole, and some of us who are not Barack Hussein Obama are going to have to start getting a little bit uppity.”

“I apologize for the offensive words I chose to use during that speech,” Jones said in a different written statement to Politico on Wednesday. “They do not reflect the views of this administration, which has made every effort to work in a bipartisan fashion, and they do not reflect the experience I have ha

reading along, trying to get a grip on what legislation will pass the senate (cap & trade bill passed by the house of reps already at the urging of mr. obama, who refuses to consider offshore drilling for oil until our alternate energy is good enough…), i came across a news article about the state of missouri and how its governor is proudly announcing a new cost to consumers of energy in MO which, he claims, will end up costing missouri businesses and citizens less than what they will be charged… huh, you say? me too:

http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics/story/1307200.html

how is it that government gets away with making us pay more now and promises that we will recoup those costs in the future? have you ever had any new tax recouped to you? what was it, a tax credit? what good does a tax CREDIT do for you if you go broker every day?

how about the taxes charged on toll roads? that’s a great example! when toll roads were built, everyone paid a toll to use them, supposedly a temporary tax only until the road was finished. but the crooked politicians NEVER stopped, but they did increase, the amount of the tolls that were paid. the tolls are a TAX.

inflation, especially to those of you without a job, is also a TAX. now the governor of MO says that the new energy-conservation tax must be charged NOW and that it will get “recouped” back to businesses, which are going to have to lay more workers off because of the increase that they will pay to the utility companies. when the workers are laid off, how will the utility bills at home be paid?

politicians in DC are getting quite excited learning about the governor of missouri’s ideas to help utility company contain costs, but when our president took the oath, he told us that we’d have to wait 8 months to learn if offshore drilling for oil would be allowed, since, he said, he wants rigs (which take about 2 years each to build) to be powered entirely by alternate forms of energy themselves! i have not heard a peep out of obama lately or within the 8 weeks after he gained the office of president, about offshore oil drilling. huh! the chinese are drilling for it off of cuba, which is actually part of our own eastern continental shelf. oh, yeah, but they are communists (as though that makes any difference)…???

democrats in the house, who control the house, say that cap & trade will only cost the consumer about $100 a year, but republicans say that it will cost (initially) somewhere around $770 per year and more than that, since alternative energy forms and “green industry” is certainly NOT in place now. we really have a long way to go on that. so who cares if the united states becomes the *shining example* of countries that are ahead of the game of conventional energy consumption?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/06/26/house-passes-milestone-energy-climate-change/

i say, who cares, since if these increased costs (taxes) are going to put you out of a job, how will the federal government pay for more research and implementation of this foreseen, but not yet concrete, plan to run entirely on the new green energy? if you are out of a job, you will not pay income taxes, will you? and won’t you cut back on what you spend in the general marketplace? so, it is another domino effect, just like when the housing bubble broke. do you realize how many small companies have gone under after that? in chicago, i see more and more and more small businesses closing their doors, leaving their storefronts vacant. it is happening here ALL OVER our city of about 2.5 million people! and, it is happening ALL OVER all of the big cities and everywhere in our country, isn’t it?

so, do you think that we will have no federal taxation to offset research and development, as well as implementation of perfected green energy machines? how so?

what will you tell your senator? what will you do to prevent the house of reps and your state’s politicians from pulling the wool out from under you?

Why are all three presidential candidates promising to bring fuel prices down and at the same time promising to bring CO2 emissions down? If fuel is cheaper, we will use more fuel and CO2 emissions will go up. If fuel prices are high, we will use less fuel and CO2 emissions will go down. How can they possibly be pandering to both sides of this issue at the same time.

Green energy hasn’t been invented, yet they are promising to create millions of new “green jobs”.At best, solar and wind energy will only account for 10 percent of electrical energy and none of transportation energy. Ethanol turned out to be a disaster because it brought about food shortages and drove the price of food up. The democrats are opposed to nuclear energy and drilling for fuel in the ocean. All three of them are opposed to drilling for oil in Alaska.

I am talking about the short term plan for the next four years.

What kind of jobs I can find with solar energy since… everything we know are turning more green. Won’t the jobs outlook for this career be pretty good? Please give me some jobs that for this careers. For some reason, I cant find them. Looks like there aren’t many jobs like this out yet. I mean in this career, I can go into car industry, solar housing industry and probably many more.

I’m a recent college grad, but am considering going back to school to learn about the green industry–and it will certainly become a big deal in the years to come. I want to get a green job, but without the necessary education (communications major) and little real world experience I doubt anyone would hire me. So why not start over? Does anyone know what types of green jobs exist? If you have a green job, what do you do? Where did you get your education for preparation for this job? What colleges and universities provide an education in this new field of study? (I live in South Jersey) I’m interested in the environment, clean energy, organic farming, even herbal medicine and supplements–any of these (or maybe some fields i can’t even think of) would be nice to break into. Thanks!!
