gary g questioned:
Why are all three presidential candidates promising to bring fuel prices down and at the same time promising to bring CO2 emissions down? If fuel is cheaper, we will use more fuel and CO2 emissions will go up. If fuel prices are high, we will use less fuel and CO2 emissions will go down. How can they possibly be pandering to both sides of this issue at the same time.

Green energy hasn’t been invented, yet they are promising to make millions of new “green jobs”.At best, solar and wind energy will only account for 10 percent of electrical energy and none of transportation energy. Ethanol turned out to be a disaster because it brought about food shortages and drove the price of food up. The democrats are opposed to nuclear energy and drilling for fuel in the ocean. All three of them are opposed to drilling for oil in Alaska.
I am talking about the small term plot for the next four years.

Who’s promising lower fuel prices?

fuel price going up is the only thing that will slow down emissions. well besides a miracle alternative that is simpler and less expensive.

In theory, yes. If prices are high emissions will go down because people will not drive. So far the price continues to climb and people continue to drive and get in my way. Traffic has not let up yet, so I don’t reckon it can be proven.

I have noticed that more people are walking the shorter distances in the last few weeks. At least people might get some excercise.

Sounds like the same logic GWB and his rich oil friends used

Green energy for vehicles has been around for many years. There are buses and cabs in Europe and India that run on compressed air. There are cars that can get 100 MPG right now. We just haven’t had them made available to us yet. Solar panels are being used in Germany on every home. We are just way behind other countries such as Brazil who uses sugar cane to fuel their vehicles. We knew this was coming 30 years ago but did nothing about it because oil got cheaper again. I don’t reckon that’s going to happen this time.

its vital that fuel become more affordable for people who live in suburbs that don’t have excellent public transportation. prices going too high also bring the cost of food up through shipping costs. i’m assuming youre taking all this into acount. with the technology available “green energy” or alternitive fuels do exist in the form of ethenol, solar panels, and wind energy. some people would benefit greatly from fuel prices going down, but in the meantime congress has to get on the ball with making alternative fuel a widespread option.

Oddly enough European politicians intentionally inflated the cost of gasoline a few years back to foster the building of a public transportation infrastructure. A gallon of gas still costs 8 dollars US in europe. amusing though diesel can be a lot cheaper there if you are a commercial carrier. I know, US politicians say F*** the Europeans, they dont know anything
besides the continent wide rail net, the subways in all the cities. People more likely to use a bicycle to get to work versus a V-10 hummer.. Did not answer the question, did I? They will reduce the cost of gas? Its a bit late for that now methinks. Soon as peace is declared in the middle east, and OPEC says we give up! you might see a reduction in gas prices. Right now everyone is making money hand over fist in the oil industry and can not even imagine a future where they might stop. Actively oppose any efforts to stop them. **** Cheney’s energy summit.
Edit
Republicans always plot for the next 4 years. Democrats too. Eventually someone has to break the cycle. Our government leaders are more worried about elections than our continued health, economically, physically and in the world abroad. They dont care as long as they get the numbers… then they do as they wish. consider George Walker Bush. Wish someone would start thinking about the future of our country versus what lies they need to say to get a well loved vote.
