What is more likely to happen, a new fuel is found are/or different ways of producing it and piston engined cars are powered by this better fuel similar to the way it is now or electric cars? Obviously both are going to happen but which is going to completely take over the auto industry in the future? This is excluding possibility of hybrids.

…Electric cars really intrigue me. It seems that they may be the way to solve or at least help a huge amount of issues with environment, oil dependency….. But, the ones that are really practical (can go over 30 MPH and farther than 30 miles on a charge) are just way too expensive for most people to really buy. Does anyone have the inside scoop on the future of these vehicles? Maybe some links that I have not found?

They say zero emissions when people talk about electric cars. Is it really zero emissions or is it indirect emission?

and the electric (electrolysis) produced by coal/oil/nuclear/etc why not just have electric cars with a nice clean electric motor.
Batteries could be swapped at petrol stations so no need to wait.
Electricity also comes from solar.
I reckon industry is tooled up for the internal combustion engine petrol or hydrogen and are unwilling to change

It seems as though most hybrid and/or electric cars built by the huge manufacturers are very hideous to look at. Why is this? One could nearly get the impression that they don’t want them to sell.

Would electric cars not be worse for the environment? We do not have enough power plants on the grid to plug in that many cars.

If electric cars take over whats going to happen to mechanics? And everything I’ve been learning for years will be like a waste if electric cars become the norm so I’m really worried about this.

Whydont they make more electric cars for the sake of the environmets? Seems like even in times of fuel crunch manufactures still arent mass producing electric cars, why not?

If EVERYONE had Electric Cars tomorrow, and solar panels on our homes, what would happen to our economy? Would millions lose their jobs? Is this why we DON”T have a decent electric car? Has anyone seen the movie “Who Killed the Electric Car?” I reckon the car makers, the government and the oil industry are working together to keep the US from having an all Electric Car?

How do you reckon electric cars could help the environment and make a better future?

What if pads where placed on some roads every few miles, that would send energy up into an electric car? They could work by sending AC electricity through the air Tesla style, like those wireless cellphone chargers.

The cars would carry small ID tags. So every time they took energy from a pad the company could collect a fee from the driver. And the driver could have an option to turn the system off if they didn’t need to be charged(electrically or monetarily).

What do you reckon?

I’m writing a paper, what are some disadvantages of electric cars? Also where does most of the electricity to our outlets come from?

If we switched every car to electric, that would mean 590 million passenger cars worldwide would need to be plugged into somekind of outlet for recharging. Wouldn’t that strain our electrical grids? Wouldn’t we need to burn oil, burn more coal, make more nuclear power plants to produce more electricity? Am I incorrect?
