It seems as though most hybrid and/or electric cars built by the huge manufacturers are very hideous to look at. Why is this? One could nearly get the impression that they don’t want them to sell.

I have heard on and off that California is thinking about taxing people who own Hybrid Cars. Since people are not buying enough Gas and the Govn’t has to come up with new ways to make money. I seen and heared this Statement from couple of people. Can anyone tell me where I can find an article on this, Taxing people who own Hybrid Cars. I know that there is incentive but not a tax on owning one.

I thought I heard that the manufacturing of the hybrid system including it’s batteries does more hurt in the long run than a regular car. The batteries also go through a long manufacturing process as they must be shipped to various places around the world.

I’m thinking about buying a hybrid car and I live in a state where winter temperatures can drop to minus 20 degrees or even colder. I want to make sure I buy a vehicle that will start on these wicked cold mornings.

I have to do a rough draft for a chemistry project and I have had no luck finding information so far. My topic is to clarify the chemical reactions that occur in both a hybrid car and a regular car in order to compare them. If you know anything, please help. Websites and online sources would be appreciated.

Some cars in the early 90s like the civic, geo metro, etc got 50mpg or more. Howcome nearly 20 years later, our hybrid technology is not able to significantly outperform these vehicles?

Its is a known fact that cars are one of the major contribution for green house gases. So recently the car manufactures come up with a new Eco friendly car, which is the hybrid cars. So my question is, if the global population adopt to hybrid car, can global warming be prevented?

I’ve never driven a hybrid before and I’m wondering, how does a hybrid car exactly word? Do I drive ti exactly as a normal car? Do I place gas in it? Do I place water in it? Whats maintenence like? it has a “ECVT transmission” –what does this mean? Ive heard hybrids turn off on traffic lights and dont sit idle?.. Does this mean I will have to start my engine over and over again, or have distress at traffic lights?? Please give me all details!

I’ve read that newer hybrid cars like the Volt will run on a pure electrical engine for distances of 40 miles or so and then switch to a traditional gasoline engine after that threshold has been reached. But, it’s terrible for gas to sit unused in an engine for an extended period of time. If one of these cars is only used for 20 mile commutes over a period of several months, is there any system in place to deal with the fact that whatever gasoline is in there will go unused for long periods of time?

I’m doing this for a class project and I need help, so here’s my question.

What do hybrid cars do (such as the Prius) when the battery doesn’t have charge anymore and you don’t use the regenerative braking as much to recharge the battery?
emiller, you answer doesn’t relate to my question, thanks anyway.
