Ay asked:
We’ve had electric trains for decades, and in other countries they use diesel cars that get way more better fuel efficiency than gas

Americans love their gas cars and thats just how its been. most amercians still think electric or diesel is inferior to gas. they are simply misinformed.

Most diesel engine vehicles cost about 5,000.oo more than a regular car and nowadays the price of diesel is about 40 cents more a gallon than gasoline. As far as electric cars go they just aren’t that practical yet. Many of the new gas/hybrids are great because they don’t require plugging in to recharge the batteries but all electric cars just aren’t feasable.

Electric cars are still a few years away technology wise and will likely be expensive.
Diesel cars get great fuel economy, but the same diesel they use in Europe cannot be used in the US because of emissions standards. In Europe they have different standards for gas and diesel fuel. In the US it’s the same for both. So that’s what keeps many diesel cars off our sure until low sulfur diesel gets more use in the US.
